Summerfruit Levy proposal enters objection period

Fruit Growers Tasmania | Tuesday, 25 October 2022, 9.00am

Earlier this year Summerfruit Australia Limited prepared and distributed information and a formal vote to growers and levy payers about proposed amendments to part of the stone fruit levy and charge, to:

  • Increase the research and development (R&D) component to 0.98c/kg
  • Reduce the marketing component to zero.

The ballot closed on 27 June 2022 and the votes collated indicated support for Summerfruit Australia Limited to submit a levy amendment proposal to the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.

Summerfruit Australia Limited formally submitted the proposal to amend the stone fruit levy and charge, to the Minister on the 17th of October 2022. The full proposal is publicly available HERE.

This proposal has now entered an objection period, which commenced on the 19th of October 2022 and will close on the 25th of November 2022.

During this objection period, levy payers may submit an objection to the proposal to any of the following:

Summerfruit Australia Limited requests that objections include any reasons why the levy or part of the proposal is opposed; any suggestions to change the proposal; and whether consent is given to SAL responding to the objection directly or if the objection should remain anonymous.

Responses to any objections will be provided after the objection period closes on the 25th of November, 2022.

If you require any additional information or wish to discuss any component of the process, please contact Trevor Ranford via ceo@summerfruit.com.au
