Claire McCrory is a PhD candidate exploring new techniques and technologies to maximise the shelf-life of sweet cherries.
Working with Hansen Orchards, Claire's cherry research is helping to change how we think and manage cherry packaging, storage and logistics, with tangible results for producers.
In her research Claire goes undercover to track the life of a cherry through the supply chain from Tassie orchards through to Brisbane supermarkets with some eye-opening results that have surprised many within the industry.
Claire has discovered a new appreciation for a cherry’s ‘life after harvest’ and how responsive these living, breathing red bundles of energy really are. ‘I love applying tech solutions to cherries to keep them in a suspended state of freshness for as long as possible.’
Hear ‘fresh’ stories about cherries from Claire during the Cherry breakout session on Friday afternoon or catch her over a cuppa during the conference.
